Movie Review (Theatrical): The Goods

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard!
Synopsis: "Ari Gold" saves a car dealership from going out of business. . .
Grade: B

Do you like to laugh? More specifically, do you like to laugh at potty humor? Do you like funny references to other movies? And, most importantly, do you love Entourage and is Ari Gold your favorite character? Then you'll really enjoy The Goods! I laughed out loud so many times during this movie and even had to look around during some of the jokes I was laughing at because I wasn't sure if it was appropriate (this movie actually makes pedophilia kinda funny. . .) So, if you want to take 90 minutes and have a mindless good time then I recommend this movie.

Movie Review (Theatrical and Rental): Good movie vs. Awful movie

Okay. . .this match up isn't even fair. It's actually insulting to District 9 that I will put it in the same blog as The Unborn. But I need to address how great District 9 is vs. how *painfully* awful The Unborn is:

District 9

Synopsis: Separation of human and alien (and what happens when worlds collide)

Grade: A-

What I really enjoyed about this film is how different it is from your usual cookie-cutter blockbuster film. It does not have any A-list celebrities in it. It does not have "cartoonish" action sequences (I'm not sure how to further explain that. That's a personal interpretation.) It tells an interesting story with a combination of humor, drama, and action and makes you believe this is something that could actually happen. I'm even in awe of how real the aliens looked in this film! What also helped me was that I went into this film not knowing that much about it. I knew the trailers looked really interesting to me but basically only saw that it was a mockumentary on how South Africans deal with an alien invasion. What I saw on screen was far more interesting. . .

The Unborn
Synopsis: Something about twins, demons, and Kabbalah. . .

Grade: F

Words cannot express how bad this movie is. That is all.

Movie Review (Theatrial): Triple Threat. . .

This weekend was a busy movie-watchin' weekend for me!! And it was quite the variety - a popcorn action flick, a suspense thriller, and an indie that shines over many big budget movies. No poster pics this time around. I don't feel like playing with them. lol! Up first. . .

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Synopsis: Intro. movie to the classic toy characters. . .
Grade: C+

I have three words for this film: not that bad. When I first heard about this movie I was so psyched for it! I've seen the cartoons and I used to pretend to be Scarlett when playing GI Joe with friends. I was looking forward to the live action film based on the cartoon characters. But then. . .the media storm hit and the report was that this movie was beyond horrible. I then became nervous. Should I bother to see it? How bad could this movie possibly be? Well, like I said in the beginning - it's not *that* bad. It's fun. Plain and simple. Sure it's not a fully developed plot and there are some corny one-liners but, seriously, what did the haters expect this movie to be? Granted there are plenty of comic book movies that are pretty impressive but this is one you have to take with a grain of salt. Just sit back, go for the ride, and you might be pleasantly surprised.

A Perfect Getaway
Synopsis: Honeymoon goes back with reports of murders. . .
Grade: A-/B+

I thought this movie was very well done! I might enjoy it a bit more than the average movie goer because, through my acting classes, I'm taught to analyze dialogue and look for character secrets, etc. That's really what this movie is about. It's dialogue driven and I was really into the "scavenger hunt" the writer/director put us on with the small clues he left in his words. Now, the movie does end up being predictable but it's not disappointing. I found it thoroughly entertaining and I would like to watch it again to see if I can find more dialogue clues. . .

Moon
Synopsis: A man working on the moon for three years discovers some interesting secrets. . .
Grade: A

This movie is beyond impressive. It had a minimal budget and only a handful of actors (with one in particular - Sam Rockwell - who has to pretty much carry the entire film) but the acting and the story-telling of the director really make this movie a must-see. It is stylized and quite visual (even for having a lack of CGI and a crazy set.) Sam Rockwell, who's already pretty respected, really shows what a top-notch talent he is and I'm sure we'll be seeing him win an Oscar down the road (if he ends up not nominated for this particular film.)

Top Ten Favorite John Hughes Movies

Today we lost a film icon who was a staple in the teen comedy genre. His movies were funny and inspiring and everyone who hears the term "John Hughes film" knows exactly what type of movie that it implies. In honor of John Hughes, who lost his life at the young age of 59, I will list my Top Ten favorite John Hughes films.
Note: not all of these films were directed by him as many think. He was primarily a writer. . .

10: Uncle Buck

9: She's Having a Baby
8: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
7: Sixteen Candles
6: Christmas Vacation
5: Some Kind of Wonderful
4: Ferris Bueller's Day Off
3: Vacation
2: Pretty in Pink
1: The Breakfast Club

Rest in Peace John Hughes. Thanks for these classic movies!!

**Oh no. . .I forgot Home Alone. I've changed this list several times to add classics that I forgot. That just goes to show what an impact this guy made on the movie industry.**

Movie Review (Theatrical): Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince (a movie that stands on it's own. . .)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
Synopsis: It's Harry Potter. . . :p

Grade: A

I've read all the books. I've seen all of the other movies. I'm a fan. Therefore, that makes me a bit biased in this situation but there's a formula present in the books and all of the movies that works. It combines mystery, action, and coming-of-age storytelling along with amazing visuals and special effects. I don't see how this movie could have failed unless they resorted to recasting the entire film with inexperienced actors and filmed it with a home video recorder. Definitely worth the watch!!
